Resident Evil Revelations 3DS : How To Defeat Norman

After a long battle with Norman of Casual difficulty, managed to defeat Norman for the first time. I won with the help of my Dad. He completed Campaign on Casual difficulty over several weeks while I was still stuck on the boss fight with Norman. That may make defeating Norman seem like a very difficult task, but you must remember that I am a very, very sucky gamer. It can be done. This might help you.

Basic Tips and Tricks

When I played through story mode the first time round' I relied on a walkthrough supplied by IGN.com. This walkthrough is great, but not useful when you get to the boss fight with our pal Norman. It will instruct you to always aim for the heart or the head. Yeah. Don't do that. It may look like it's working, but it's not. Trust me.

Obviously, what you want to do is shoot him. But, what IGN won't tell you is where to shoot him. If you shoot him near the heart or head, he'll go reeling backwards. However, if you shoot him at the waistline or lower, he'll stumble forwards making the real weak point in his back briefly accessible. Don't worry if you miss. You'll get him eventually.

The real Norman is the one that breaths purple smoke.

Don't bother with melee moves. When he's stunned, take advantage of the fact that his weak point if fully available. Now would be a good time to use your machine gun.

I'm unsure how many herbs are in the room. On normal difficulty, I know there's two. Leave them where they are unless you're facing a dire emergency. Hopefully, you entered the room with five herbs. You'll need them. When you run out, scan Norman for one. You can scan him about three times, but pick your moments. When he's right next to you and looks like he's about to grab you, it may not be the best time to scan him.

There are only two boxes of ammo in the room, and there's no way of telling what they'll give you until you try to pick them up, but, if you only have the shotgun and the Machine gun in your inventory, that's the ammo you'll get. Make sure to drop any other weapons in the weapon box if that's what your after. You can pick them up again after you get the ammo.

Recommended Weapons

This depends on the weapons and amount of ammo you have. I found the shotgun most effective. It sends him reeling either forwards or backwards (Depending on where you hit) with one blow. I would recommend using the machine gun when he's stunned. If you're on casual difficulty, or are on normal and have the custom part daze 3 or above, you can alternate between the machine gun and the shotgun. The Magnum L. Hawk, if you have it, will usually send him reeling in two shots. Often, you don't have time. The handgun you're given at the beginning of the game is damn near useless unless you're knocked over, and then I'd just recommend getting up ASAP instead of shooting.  If you get knocked over a lot, and you happened to take the Handgun Government Parker dropped when he fell and you still have it with you, it might work. I never tried it, because I think I lost it along the way :,(

Stage 1

The battle with Norman has different stages, depending on how much you've ticked him off. In the first stage, he'll teleport in front or behind you, mostly in front. Keep your distance from him. Shoot him low before attempting to hit the spot on his back.

If you get close enough, he may grab you by the head and lift you off the ground. If you let him, he'll skewer you with his free arm. Press Y repeatedly until he lets you go.

Stage 2

Instead of one Norman, now there are two. Kind of like in Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2. I wonder if they got the idea for that from Norman... that would be cool...  As mentioned above, the guy who isn't emitting purple smoke is a hologram. Keep shooting him like you were in stage one. Forget about the hologram. He can't hurt you.

Stage 3

Stage two and stage three are sort of combined, but I'll separate them here. The next thing he'll do is, the hologram will teleport in front of you and Jackie boy'll teleport behind you. If Parker were here, he'd shout something cool like "Sneaky son of a bitch! Take this!" Unfortunately, Parker isn't here. Chris doesn't shout much cool stuff these days. Anyway, just preform a quick turn (Down on the control pad + B) and shoot him with the shotgun.

Stage 4

Next, Hologram will teleport in front of you, and bring his arm down on top of you. He can't hurt you, in fact, his arm goes right through you. Use this time to reload. As usual, I'd recommend using the shotgun. When Norman appears, you don't have much reaction time, so make sure you're ready.

Stage 5

Well, you've made it this far. Good job. Hopefully, you're health is still good and you still have all your herbs. If not, don't panic. This is where it starts to heat up. Norman'll mix things up and combine all the stages. I don't know what he'll do first, so be ready for anything.

Stage 6

Now you're really starting to tick him off. Two things will happen now. Either there will be several holograms that teleport in front of you one after the other, and then the real Norman will appear, giving you about half a second to relax before he skewers you with his arm, it will cause light damage but nothing too serious. If that doesn't happen, one hologram'll teleport in front of you, and
Norman'll teleport behind you and hit you. If this happens, run forwards and perform a quick turn. He'll be doubled over and panting. Now'll be a good time to hit him in his weak spot. Use the machine gun to do so, you get better results.

If that weak spot in his back is turning a brighter pink, you're doing really well. You'll know your getting close when Chris says "What is he, immortal?"

If you get to this stage, and still have a herb in your inventory, you're amazing. If not, try not to die.

Just keep doing what you're doing, and eventually the thing on his back'll burst and he'll die. Watch the ending cutscenes and bask in the glory of your accomplishment. You did fantastic!

Thanks so much for reading my guide to defeating Norman, and remember, don't expect to kill him the first time around. It'll take practise, patience and perseverance.

RE Revelations Character Review

A guide to Raid Mode Characters. Obviously, I have my favourites (and I'm sure you will, or already do, as well) but I'll try to be unbiased.

1. Jill Valentine

Jill is one of the first characters you unlock on Raid Mode by completing episodes 1-3 of campaign. If you're going to play as her, use the handgun and the machine gun as she reloads those weapons the fastest. Her melee move is the Roundhouse.

Unlike other characters, she has a stabbing movement with her knife instead of a swiping movement.

You can play as Jill if you want, but you have her for most of the story mode as well, so she might get boring after a while.

Her beach costume, which is pretty much identical to her wetsuit, can be unlocked by reaching level five.

2. Chris Redfield

Chris is another of the three characters unlocked by completing 1-3 of story mode (campaign)
Don't get me wrong, I love Chris - the old Chris with the crappy voice acting and weird hair. Chris in the newer games is cool, but he's the typical tough guy who's "all about the job" so he seems a little... I don't know. Bland? His melee move is a weird punch thing that I couldn't find the name of. If someone knows the name, please tell me so I can put it on here.

If you are going to play as Chris, use the shotgun and the rifle. The rifle takes forever to reload on most characters, but Chris's character loads it considerably faster, useful when taking out sniper oozes.

Chris's  diver costume can be unlocked by reaching level thirty.

3. Parker Luciani

The other character that can be unlocked by completing episodes 1-3. I was glad too since he's my favourite character. The weapon for his diver suit is an axe which has a unique swinging movement that can defeat multiple enemies at once. If you play as Parker, bring a handgun and a shotgun.

You can play using his beach costume at level twenty, and his FBC outfit can be unlocked by obtaining a legendary weapon, I'm not overly sure what counts as a legendary weapon, but I unlocked the outfit when I obtained the Drake (shotgun.)

His melee move is a punch slightly different from Chris's.

4. Keith Lumley (AKA. Grinder)

Keith can be unlocked by completing episodes 4-6 in the main game. He has two swords as his side-weapon and they are also used in his impressive looking melee attack. He's skilled with the machine gun and is 50% better at physical attacks and 100% better at knife attacks than other characters.

His HQ outfit can be unlocked by beating 50 missions.

5. Jessica Sherawat

As much as I hate Jessica for what she did to some of my favourite characters, I gotta admit, she's pretty awesome. You can unlock her by reaching level ten. Her best weapons are the Machine gun and the rifle. Although, I expected her to be skilled with the handgun. Her melee move is a kick that comes down on top of the victim with a lot of force if properly charged, giving you a good view of her impractical heels.

Her diving outfit can be unlocked by clearing all Trench stages with any rank, and her FBC outfit can be unlocked by reaching level 40.

6. Quint Cetcham (AKA Jackass)

Let me just say straight off the bat that Quint's melee move is awesome. He places a time bomb on the ground and scuttles away (Reminds me of a crab.) this move will effect all enemies close to the enemy you targeted. He is unlocked by completing 100 missions. He is good with the shotgun and causes more damage with grenades than other characters, which is useful when your surrounded by enemies and all you have is one grenade.

His HQ outfit (which doesn't look as awesome) is unlocked by reaching level 50.

7. Raymond Vester

I don't care if he's evil. I don't care if he gave a sample of the T-Abyss to Jessica (He had his god damn reasons.) Raymond is awesome. He only has one costume, and it can be unlocked by clearing Trench difficulty. He reloads handguns and Magnums faster and his melee move is a kick that could be described as the opposite of Jessica's since he kicks the underside of the enemies before doing a slight bunny hop backwards.

8. Morgan Lansdale

I don't know why you'd want to unlock Morgan, but whatever floats you're boat I guess. He has one costume which you can get by clearing the ghost ship 100%. To do that, I suggest you are at least level forty, play on co-op and have some decent weapons. Don't let the B.S.A.A. emblem fool you. There's only one real one, and that's on the deck after one hell of a battle. His melee move is a Kung-Fu thingy that no old man should be able to perform. He is skilled with the rifle and the magnum.

9. Clive R. O'Brian

I like O'Brian. He nearly killed Parker, Raymond and Quint (my three fave characters) but I can forgive him. He is unlocked by completing Abyss difficulty, so it is likely that he will be the last character you unlock. He's good with a handgun and has the same skill with the grenade as Quint. His melee move is a karate chop that looks really cool.

10. Jack Norman

I failed to see the point of Norman since he's not all cool and mutated. He's just a dude with no catchphrases of his own, who destroyed Terragrigia, and nearly killed Raymond and Parker. He also killed Jill like fifty times near the end (maybe that was just my game.) So when I did unlock him, I instantly disliked him.  To unlock him, you must obtain all legendary weapons. I have no idea how I did that or what weapons I had, but it doesn't include the High Roller because I deleted that from my storage. He's good with the machine gun and has the grenade thingy O'Brian and Quint have. His melee move is kind of like a headbutt, but he uses more of his shoulder than his head (I named it the shoulder shove)

Rachel Foley

I have not yet unlocked Rachel, but I know how to do it. You have to get the trinity bonus.
To do that, you have to get the low level bonus, the genocide bonus, and the no damage bonus. I think getting the perfect shot bonus will help here too.

The low level bonus is the bonus you get when you're lower than the recommended level.
The genocide bonus is awarded when you kill every enemy (Does not include sea creepers)
The no damage bonus is for not getting any damage.
The perfect shot bonus is for 100% accuracy.

Do all this, and she's yours. (I think)

There's also some downloadable content for Rachel, a Rachel ooze costume and a Lady Hunk costume.

I will post more info on Rachel when and if I unlock her.

Happy Wheels Review

I've wanted to play Happy Wheels ever since I watched Pewdiepie play it. The best place to play it, in my opinion, would be at Totaljerkface.com, where you can play the full version.

It's not a serious game, few flash games are, so don't expect a deep plot or actual objectives. You control a character, guide them through a level and maybe, if you're very, very lucky or talented, your character might make it to the end. Don't feel bad if it doesn't. Maybe it's not supposed to.

My favourite character was of course, irresponsible Dad. Irresponsible mum was a close second. It was fun to try and flip the children off the bikes. The controls were hard to work out at first, and I got Segway dude impaled on a spike because of my carelessness, but it's all part of the gruesome fun.

There isn't a lot more to say about this game, since there's a lot I'd prefer you experience yourself but I guarantee you hours of fun playing and replaying levels.

Overall, I'd give it 8/10

Resident Evil Revelations Review

RE Revelations was my first ever Resident Evil game. On top of this, it was the first game I ever completed. I'm still convinced that it was one of the greatest games ever created, however, a lot of people don't agree. Using the best of my abilities (and a little help from the internet) I will try to give you a well-rounded review, that focuses on the good points as well as the bad.

Revelations was designed specifically for the 3DS console. That's the platform I have, and the platform I'm reviewing.

The first thing I noticed were the game's graphics. Up until that fateful birthday when I was given a 3DS and a Revelations game chip I'd been playing Mario 64 on my DSI. Of course, I knew the graphics were going to be an improvement, I just didn't know how much of an improvement! Even with the 3D turned off the graphics are phenomenal.

early in the game, whilst looking for the
key to Chris' room
At first, your only option is to play the story mode. Raid mode comes later. There were a few moments where I jumped out of my seat, but seasoned fans would argue not as many as some other RE titles.

The basic controls are easy. The circle pad to move, R button to aim, Y to shoot, A to heal, X for knife attacks and other side weapons (Grenades, decoys and so on.) I'd highly recommend sticking with these controls and not changing them.

Apart from Jill and Chris, the game consists of all new characters. Some of these characters are easily likeable (Parker) and some were intended to be unlikeable (Raymond, who I love anyway) and for some of these characters there's no middle ground. You either like them or you don't (Quint and Keith)

More on that later.

The plot was confusing in places, starting with the segment spent on the beach. It took me quite a while to work out that it was set the day before Parker and Jill rocked up on the Zenobia.

It was all over the place, leaving you wondering exactly who could you trust? (Parker. Always trust Parker... and Quint.) One minute your on a rescue mission looking for Jessica, the next minute your in Terragrigia fighting alongside Jessica, and then... well, I don't want to spoil it for you.

I'll admit there were plot holes, but if you look at any movie, book, game, cartoon ETC, you're bound to find one, if not more, plot hole. Some big ones in Revelations were;

How did Parker survive his fall? I'm glad he did of course but, that was like... thirty feet. Into fire. And explosions.
How did Parker, Raymond and Jessica get off the Zenobia? Again, I'm glad they did, (Except for Jessica. I wish she'd stayed on the boat and burned.) but... how. The boat sank. There was one helicopter operated by Hat Trick. As far as I know, there weren't any others. Correct me If I'm wrong of course.
Quint and Keith survived that explosion? How? Pot luck?
And finally, the big one;
Jessica and Raymond working together? How. The. Hell? I don't even know.

Back onto characters, I was surprised to hear that Quint and Keith (mostly Quint) were criticized so much I game reviews. Personally, when Quint tripped over something (Was it a bucket?) in Valkoinen Mokki, it made me think of him not just as a game character, or even just as a real person, I saw him as someone I could relate to. Someone out of their depth in a world full of monsters, tripping over something their slightly more co-ordinated partner managed to step over.

To this day, Quint remains one of my favourite characters. Apparently, Capcom added them in as comic relief. I think it worked perfectly. For example, when Quint contacted Chris to guide him through the ship but ended up talking to Jessica, and changed his voice to sound more macho, I was laughing so hard that I had to pause the game so I didn't get killed while I calmed down. Seriously? Did no one else think that was adorable and hilarious?

When you do unlock Raid Mode, it's great fun. As there are three difficulties, that means there's three versions of each level, each of them unpredictable. At first, on Chasm difficulty, it all seems pretty traditional. Oozes in the Zenobia, Blob things on the beach, Hunters in Terragrigia.

things start to change on Trench difficulty however. There are monsters out of place, adding to the suspense and terror.

Skagdead. Expect to die a lot when you meet this dude.
Then there's Abyss. Don't even speak to me about the final levels of Abyss. I only got through all of the levels starting from Emergency Passageway to Mad Banquet because I had a very, very good partner. You may as well forget everything you thought you knew about Revelations when you get to this stage. Hunters in the flood, piranha guppy mutant things on the beach, it gets pretty hectic.

Overall:

The game controls are great, the graphics are wonderful, the characters are awesome (I guess that's a matter of opinion) but the plot gets confusing.

9/10
